Trail Conditions and Snow Report

 Updated December 9, 2016

We have 4 inches of snow on the ground and the ground under it is not frozen.  Temps are dropping to single digits and that will help.  The lakes are just freezing this week and will not be safe for travel for sometime.  The swamps are full and we have not been able to access them to remove downed trees from the summer storms yet.  We also have multiple beaver problems on Sporty's spur, main trail just of Island Lake shelter, Old Vermilion road crossing, Taft trail.  Twig Trail is not passible because of trees in wet areas on the work farm.

A crew worked this last weekend and found it next to impossible to get through the swamp east on Hwy 4 even with tracked rigs.  Many trees remain on that section.  That area of the main trail is not passable yet.  Hopefully after this week the cold will firm it up so at least tracked vehicles can get in there.   Sporty's spur is not open due to water issues.  Twig Trail on the work farm is not passible because of trees and water.  The main trail east of the Island Lake Spur and the shelter has a beaver dam across the trail.  We drained it once and they built it back.  We are going to get a mini excavator in there to dig it out again.  Come and join the fun!!

Our main trail is blocked on both sides of Hay Creek Bridge. We are working to open that section as soon as possible but it is very difficult to get to because of the swamps not being frozen. This small area has well over 50 trees down. Many are very large.  Our Twig trail is also blocked just east of the Munger Shaw Rd.  from large trees.  We hope to get both areas resolved this week but there are only so many hours in the day after work.   Follow us at Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/reservoirriders/  for most up to date information.
